Pradhan Mantri Arogya Mitra

What is an Arogya Mitra?

Jan Arogya is one of the biggest health care development schemes that have been implemented by the central government. The scheme has been designed to offer cashless treatment to needy families. The scheme will offer the specified benefits to as many as 50 crore people. Operating the scheme at ground level is a mammoth task. From enrollment to maintaining treatment records, each step requires skilled individuals. So, the central government created the position of Ayushman Mitras. These individuals will be recruited and trained by the authority to take care of all paperwork. The Ayushman Mitras are also known as Arogya Mitras.

Vacancy and salary related details

As Ayushman Bharat scheme will be implemented in all parts of the country, there are no extra points for guessing that the central government will need all the help it can get. For offering better facilities to the beneficiaries, and keeping track of records, the central government will recruit 100,000 Ayushman Mitras. All appointed candidates will be placed in both state-run and private treatment centers. These individuals will receive as much as Rs. 15,000 as remuneration on a monthly basis. Apart from this, the Ayushman Mitras can also earn an incentive, depending on the number of cases they handle.

Eligibility criteria for Arogya Mitra selection

  1. Academic criterion – It has been mentioned in the scheme drafts that all interested applicants must have 10+2 academic qualification. They will have to submit their 12th standard pass certificate during enrollment.
  2. Computer literacy – Registration of the beneficiaries, background checks, issuance of Ayushman beneficiary card, and maintaining patient records will be done via special software. Thus, it is mandatory for the interested applicants to possess basic computer knowledge.

Responsibility of the Arogya Mitra

  5. Tracking pre and post treatment details – It is the duty of the Ayushman Mitra to coordinate with the hospital authority. By doing so, the AM will be able to attain and prepare the file of each patient. These filed will contain a detailed report of his/her ailment, treatment and progress.
  6. Sending the file to respective authority – Once all documentations, related to the patient’s treatments, are ready, the Ayushman Mitra needs to send it to the respective state health department. Here the papers will be checked, and then the money will be transferred in the hospital’s account.

Agencies for monitoring the recruitment drive

  1. The SHA or the State Health Agency is the main institute that will look after the recruitment of the AMs. The agency may appoint another body to take care of the matters. The SHA is the organization that arranges the payment of monthly remuneration of the AMs. This will also be done through 3rd party engagements.
  2. The SHA may also tackle the task of recruiting or hiring trained Arogya Mitras directly. It may also instruct the health care institutes to do this on their behalf.
  3. The State Health Agency has the power to select staff, working in government run hospitals, to act as Arogya Mitras, in case more hands are required for proper operation of the scheme.
  4. Private EHCPs will have to go through a different recruitment process. Each facility will have to recruit trained Arogya Mitras on its own.
