Uttarakhand Mukhya Mantri Swasthya Bima Yojana
Uttarakhand is a northern state of India with a population of nearly 86 lakh people. On the eve of Republic Day in 2015, Hon’ble Chiel Minister of Uttarakhand Shree Harish Rawat launched the Chief Minister Health Insurance Policy as a gift to its state people.
This health insurance scheme was named Mukhya Mantri Swasthya Bima Yojana (MMSBY). This will not only prove to be a blessing for the poor and backward masses, this health insurance policy will also cover the people who do not belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL) category. This health scheme will result cashless treatment for the scheme holders. This scheme however cannot be done by families of govt. employees and families of tax payers.
Almost all major private and Govt. hospitals will be linked with this scheme. People will be able to get super medical facilities from the very reputed private hospitals like Doon Hospitals, Max Hospital and Mahant Indresh Hospital where the cost of medical treatment is very high.
Those who will subscribe to the CM’s health insurance policy will be provided a health card which has to be produced at the time of hospitalization or for reimbursement of medical treatment expenses after the treatment. In one financial year, the beneficiaries will get the free treatment up to Rs. 50,000 which will be borne by the state govt. The Chief Minister has also mentioned in felt necessary, the BPL members may be given medical assistance above Rs. 50,000. This scheme will cover approximately 1350 diseases which is a vast range when compared to other health insurance policies available in the market.
The State Govt. is dedicated to make the health and living conditions of its people better and sound. Earlier there was a health scheme available but it had several flaws in it. So a revised version of the health scheme was launched with support of Ministry of Health, Uttarakhand. The mother insurance company associated with this health insurance scheme is United India Insurance Co. which is one of the leading insurance companies.
Recently, Chief Minister Rawat has given the hint of increasing the cover amount of Rs. 50,000 which he feels is not sufficient for the people of the state. This insurance cover amount may get increased to Rs. 2 lakhs according to sources from Health Ministry. This step will increase the number of people taking part in the scheme further. As of now only 15lakh beneficiaries have joined the health insurance scheme.
