Ram Nath Kovind is the present Governor of Bihar. He is from the Bharatiya Janata Dal Party (BJP). He is a renowned and eminent politician. He is being considered by the NDA to be appointed as the next President of India. If that happens then he will be the first Dalit President of the country.
He has been elected to Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh for two consecutive terms – 1999-2000 and 2000-2006. His profession is that of an advocate and he practices in Delhi for the same. Previously he was the president of the BJP Dalit Morcha during the term of 1998 to 2002. At many occasions, he has also served as the national spokesperson for the party. During the term of 1998 to 2002 he has also served as the President of the All India Koli Samaj.
He was born in Kanpur Dehat district in Uttar Pradesh on 1st October 1945. He is 72 years old now. He started off his career as the member of Rajya Sabha in the year 1994 when he was elected for the same. In his free time he likes to practice Yoga or read books. He belongs to the Scheduled caste according to the Hindu caste system.
He once mentioned that his favorite politicians are Shyama Prasad Mukherjee – the founder of BJP and Atal Bihari Vajpayee the ex-Prime Minister of India. Apart from them, he is also an ardent fan of Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda. His sun sign is Libra.
General Life and Career
In the year 1971 he was enrolled as the advocate in the Bar Council of Delhi. He acted as the Central Government Advocate in the Delhi High Court from 1977 to 1979. After that he joined the Central Government Standing Counsel. He served there from 1980 to 1993. It was only after this that he was elected as the member of the Rajya Sabha.
He is known for always standing out for the underprivileged section of society. He is the face of the Dalits and he has always stood by the oppressed. In August 8th 2015 he was appointed as the Governor of Bihar by the President of India. He belongs to the Chamar section of the Dalits. Mr. Modi also expressed that Kovid would make an ideal Presidential candidate as he would continue to be a voice of the poor.
